AOV en onderstand onderwerpen van gesprek tijdens Caribisch Nederland week in Den Haag
In verschillende media is onlangs aandacht besteed aan de hoogte van de uitkeringen in Caribisch Nederland en de verschillen die er zijn met de hoogte van de uitkeringen in Europees Nederland.
Bij de staatkundige hervorming is met de eilandbesturen afgesproken dat na 10-10-10 de verschillende beleidsonderwerpen niet één-op-één vanuit Nederland gekopieerd zouden worden in Caribisch Nederland, omdat de eilanden een eigen geschiedenis, ligging en economische situatie kennen.
Wel is het doel om een groeipad te ontwikkelen zodat de sociaal-economische situatie verbetert. Aan deze verbetering wordt gezamenlijk gewerkt. Zo zijn per 10-10-10 de uitkeringen circa 17% gestegen en zijn dit jaar de uitkeringen opnieuw verhoogd, door correctie met de inflatiecijfers. Deze inflatiecorrectie zal jaarlijks plaatsvinden. Ook zijn projecten gestart gericht op scholing en nieuwe werkgelegenheid.
Toepassing van Europees Nederlandse uitkeringsbedragen zou op dit moment de economie van de eilanden zwaar geweld aandoen. Het wettelijk minimumloon zou drastisch verhoogd worden, met grote nadelige gevolgen voor de lokale ondernemers en de werkgelegenheid. Anders dan in Europees Nederland, mogen ontvangers van de onderstand in Caribisch Nederland wel aanvullen met inkomen uit werk. Niettemin vormen de hoogte van de uitkeringen en het minimumloon telkens terugkerende onderwerpen in het publieke debat. Het ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid (SZW) heeft daar oog voor. In oktober 2012 is er een zogenaamde Caribisch Nederland week in Den Haag en dan praten de eilandbesturen onder meer hierover met de minister van SZW.

General old age pension (in Dutch: Algemene ouderdomsverzekering (AOV) and social benefit are topics of discussion during the Dutch Caribbean week in The Hague
Recently, various media have focused their attention on the level of social benefits in the Dutch Caribbean, and the differences that exist with the level of social benefits in the European Netherlands.
With the constitutional reform, it was agreed with the island governments that after 10-10-10 the various policy issues would not be copied one-to-one from the Netherlands to the Dutch Caribbean, since the islands have their own history, location and economic situation.
However, the aim is to develop a growth path so that the socio-economic situation improves. There is being worked jointly on this improvement. Thus by 10.10.10, the social benefits have increased with about 17% and this year the social benefits have increased again, by correction of the inflation rates. This inflation correction will be repeated annually. Besides, projects aimed at training and new employment have been started.
The application of European Dutch social benefit amounts would damage the economy of the islands severely at this moment. The statutory minimum wage would be drastically increased, with major adverse consequences for local businesses and jobs. Unlike in European Netherlands, recipients of the social benefit in the Dutch Caribbean may replenish the benefit with income from work. Nevertheless, the level of social benefits and the minimum wage are recurrent issues in the public debate. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (in Dutch: Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid (SZW) has an eye for this matter. In October 2012, there will be a so-called Dutch Caribbean week in The Hague and then the island governments will discuss this matter, among others, with the Minister of Social Affairs.
